6 Smart Uses of Double-Sided Tape in Construction Industries

A double-sided tape finds its application in many industries. Also known as double-faced tape, they are used in industries for bonding, holding, mounting, splicing and packaging applications. It has adhesive on both the side of the band because of which it remains hidden in the end product. This specialty of a double-sided tape makes them a necessity in some places where its use is unavoidable.
These tapes can be categorized in many ways, one of which is its thickness. When it is thin, it is made from film or paper, and when it’s thick it is coated with rubber, acrylic or silicone adhesives. All these variants have different applications.
The construction industry has also realized the importance of such a great innovation. While fabricating materials like screws, bolts and rivets concentrate the stress at a single point, a high-strength double-coated tape permanently joins the two surfaces in a way that the load is divided over the whole mating surface. The other major reasons why it is so much useful are, it binds the surfaces quickly and does not require any skills to use them. In construction, it is used to bind glasses, woods, steels, concrete, foams and/or plastics together.

Below are a few applications of a double-sided tape in construction:

  1. Housewrap tape: A single-sided tape might allow water to pass behind the tape and into the structure. But if you use a double-sided tape as a house wrap and overlap the seams, you can be doubly sure that no water gets through.
  2. Crawlspace moisture barrier: It is very important to have a water vapor barrier in the crawlspace. Instead of using screws, you can use double-sided tapes to attach the barrier to the walls. Without crawl space moisture barrier, the moisture can seep inside the building from there and damage the construction and/or give rise to mold growth.
  3. Underlayment: Underlayment and subflooring are important in part of a building’s floor construction. Buildings are increasingly becoming air-tight and using a double-sided tape will make sure water is not transferred from your floor deep into the building. Underlayment also attenuates noise and will make your home quieter and calmer.
  4. Wall insulation: Proper insulation of walls will ensure the heat of your building doesn’t escape from the walls. Installation of these insulation plates to the walls can become very easy when these tapes are used.
  5. Model inspection: It can be very easy to attach things like light switch junction, electrical panels, base boards and crown moldings temporarily before fastening them permanently. You can attach these and be sure what will it look like after proper installation of such things.
  6. Floor protection: When you use a double-sided tape, you can protect your floor easily while the construction is still underway. This will save your flooring material from getting damaged.
It is really simple, easy and time-saving to use these tapes in construction. These are very critical especially because of low labor availability. If you are looking for such tapes, you can find them at Thomas Goldkamp Inc.
